Referred to as a “forbidden fruit” and one of the “Seven Wonders of Barbados,” Grapefruit was first documented in 1750 by Welshman Rev. Griffith Hughes. The name “grapefruit” is attributed to the fruits growing in clusters which resemble those of grapes. Known for its energizing and invigorating effect, Grapefruit helps reduce mental and physical fatigue. Grapefruit is also renowned for its cleansing and purifying benefits. It is beneficial for oily skin issues and helps to purify as it cleanses. Grapefruit is frequently used in skin care for its ability to promote clear, healthy skin and in weight loss products to support healthy metabolism.

- Antidepressant

When diffused Grapefruit is balancing and uplifting to the mind and may help to relieve anxiety.
How to apply Grapefruit:
- Topically – Can be applied neat (with no dilution) when used topically. Apply to reflex points and directly on area of concern; diffuse. Because Grapefruit oil has many of the same uses as other citrus oils, it can be used in their place wen immediate exposure to the sun is unavoidable. This is because grapefruit oil does not cause as much photosensitivity as the other citrus oils.
- Aromatically – Use three to four drops in the diffuser of your choice.
- Internally – Grapefruit oil is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for human consumption by the FDA. Dilute one drop oil in 1 tsp. honey or 4 oz. of beverage. Not for children under 6 years old.
Uses
- Diffuse to sharpen focus while studying or reading.
- Apply to insect bites or minor irritations. For sensitive skin, dilute with dōTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil.
- Apply to fatigued or sore muscles and joints.
- Diffuse or apply topically to help clear congested areas.
